Need a plan for how to get yourself prepared for laser treatment?
Summer can be a worry for some when it comes to hyperpigmentation and stretchmarks. We all want to wear our favourite summer dress without worrying about all of this.
Hence, Laser is your go-to solution, but before you get that Laser done, make sure your skin is ready for that laser treatment. Yes, you heard it right! Before that laser beam hits your skin, you can ensure it will help you get those promising changes with each laser treatment.
Listed below are
some critical things provided by Basingstoke Laser Clinic for
you to keep in mind before coming to your laser sessions
- Try to avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks
before your appointment. This is because tanned skin or skin that is
recovering from sunburn can react poorly to the Laser. If going into
direct sunlight, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher
daily throughout this time.
- Stop using chemical exfoliating products (like
those with AHAs or BHAs) and retinol for at least a week before your
treatment. These products can make your skin more sensitive to the Laser.
Make sure you inform your doctor about your current skincare products to
see if you need to adjust your routine.
- Do not wax, tweeze, or use any other hair removal
methods that will remove the hair from the root. Avoid it for at least two
weeks before treatment (laser hair removal is an exception).
- If the laser treatment is for your face, shave the
area 12-24 hours beforehand. For other areas, follow your doctor's
instructions.
- Arrive at your appointment with clean, makeup-free
skin. Avoid applying any lotions, creams, or oils beforehand.
- Tell your doctor about any medications you are taking, including over-the-counter supplements. Some medications can increase sun sensitivity or bleeding and may need to be stopped before your treatment.
We have a list of small steps you can make, but after every laser session, your skin needs extra care.
What does Basingstoke Laser Clinic say about the frequently asked question, "What to apply after laser at home?"
Immediately After treatment, apply a cool compress or a clean washcloth soaked in cool water to the treated area. This can help soothe redness and reduce swelling.
Within the First 24-48 Hours, avoid cleansers, lotions, and cosmetics with irritants like fragrance or alcohol.
However, you can wash the treated area with lukewarm water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser. Pat, it dry thoroughly. Apply a fragrance-free moisturiser suitable for sensitive skin. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides.
Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with
higher SPF daily, even on cloudy days.
Avoid products like petroleum jelly, sometimes recommended, as it can trap heat and irritate freshly treated skin.
Remember:
- Don't pick or scratch
- Wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing to avoid irritation on the treated area.
